Job overview

The post holder will have the requisite knowledge and skills to work independently with a range of medical gas/vacuum equipment and
also on complex & non-complex electrical medical equipment including repairs of such equipment & varied medical gas appliances. They
will have the knowledge to differentiate between technical and clinical problems and have the autonomy to deal with issues within the
remit of the post but will refer more complex problems to suitably qualified colleagues

Main duties of the job

Be expected to plan and organize Planned Preventative Maintenance -PPM activity on a wide range of complex and non – complex
medical equipment and gas equipment including, but not limited to, flow meters, suction units, injector suction units, Entonox
regulators, gas regulators etc.

• Plan and organize the calibration of the departments test equipment used on complex and non – complex medical test equipment
plus gas test measurement appliances.

• Carry out his/her duties within the workshop environment and in a clinical environment i.e. Wards, Theatres, and Critical Care Areas
etc.

• Train end users in the use of medical gas and suction equipment and some complex and non - complex electro-medical devices.

• Based at the Hospital, where the major part of the duties will be delivered, but will be expected to work in other parts of the Health
Board as required.

Qualifications & Knowledge

Essential criteria

1. Minimum qualification – BTEC ONC/OND, City and Guilds in a physical science or other engineering subject Or relevant training / equivalent vocational qualification - NVQ
2. Supplementary training courses specific to medical devices provided by medical equipment manufacturers. Knowledge of equipment management databases, of a Quality System, the need for hand hygiene, patient confidentiality and PPM on complex & non-complex electro medical equipment
3. Knowledge of medical gas safety Specific knowledge of medical device databases Knowledge of electrical & medical gas fault finding techniques.

Desirable criteria

4. ability to speak Welsh

5. Experience with IT packages including office software and of equipment management databases
6. Experience within the NHS.
