Must have 3-4 years accountancy practice experience The Role As Semi Senior Accountant, you will take responsibility for preparing and reviewing VAT returns, maintaining accurate bookkeeping records, and ensuring full compliance with UK VAT, CIS, and tax regulations. You will manage a varied client portfolio, predominantly owner-managed businesses, providing guidance on VAT rules, CIS treatment, and other accounting matters. Your role involves producing year-end accounts, corporation tax returns, self-assessment tax returns, and supporting clients with day-to-day financial queries. You will ensure accurate reporting, effective workflow management, and contribute to the efficient delivery of our accounting and compliance services. Bank Holidays, plus the opportunity to buy or sell up to 5 days Employee Recognition awards and bonuses Key Responsibilities The successful candidate will be responsible for: Performing bookkeeping for limited companies and sole traders using VT Transactions Preparing and submitting quarterly VAT returns for clients across sectors such as construction, retail, hospitality, manufacturing, IT, and others Entering purchase and sales invoices and reconciling supplier and customer ledgers Entering bank statements manually or via CSV imports and completing accurate bank reconciliations. Applying Domestic Reverse Charge VAT rules confidently Managing Construction Industry Scheme (CIS) processes, including CIS suffered, CIS deductions, and subcontractor payments Calculating CIS refund claims for limited companies and sole traders Preparing year-end accounts for VAT-registered and non-VAT-registered limited companies (preferably using IRIS Accountancy Suite) Preparing corporation tax returns (CT600) using IRIS Accountancy Suite, including correct treatment of allowable/disallowable expenses, capital allowances, marginal relief, and other SME tax rules Working effectively with incomplete or missing information when preparing VAT returns and accounts. Accurately recording wages, salaries, PAYE, NIC, and pension contributions Entering subcontractor payments, recording CIS deductions, and preparing workings for monthly CIS returns Candidate requirement Strong knowledge of accounting and tax rules, with willingness to stay updated on legislation changes Proven experience working within an accountancy practice Experience dealing with owner-managed businesses Practical experience of CIS and VAT Domestic Reverse Charge Strong VAT knowledge with a proven track record of preparing and submitting VAT returns Bookkeeping experience using VT Transaction software Be the main point of contact for clients and/or colleagues Strong communication skills and able to build good relationship with the client and become direct point of contact for VAT Qualifications Holds a accountancy and/or tax qualification or qualified by experience (e.g. ATT/CTA/ACA/ACCA/CA)
