An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dynamic and experienced nurse, who is enthusiastic and highly motivated with an interest in Hepatology, to join our clinical nurse specialist team.
The successful applicant will be experienced in caring for Hepatology patients with proven clinical skills and knowledge in this field. They should possess excellent communication skills and the ability to provide expert professional advice and support to Hepatology patients and their families throughout their journey.
The successful candidate will work with patients with liver conditions including cirrhosis, monitoring MASLD/ALD/Hepatitis B & C, fibro scan, and new patient referrals. Knowledge of the goals set out within the Liver Plan for Wales is essential.
The clinical nurse specialist (CNS) team collaborates closely with Gastroenterology Consultants and other clinical nurse specialists within the hospital. The role involves developing the Hepatology service, including nurse-led clinics, and supporting other areas such as day case and inpatient services.
Successful candidates are expected to perform autonomously in clinic and ward environments, running nurse-led clinics, providing patient and staff education, and conducting specialist screenings, investigations, and procedures for Hepatology patients.
Main duties of the job
1. Work as an autonomous practitioner.
2. Provide evidence-based care, demonstrating expertise in hepatology diseases.
3. Manage a defined caseload and develop nurse-led clinics in line with board protocols.
4. Make clinical judgments within their role, which may be highly complex.
5. Initiate, order, and interpret investigations and tests, communicating results sensitively.
6. Manage nurse-led clinics following health board policies.
7. Attend outpatient clinics and ward areas to support patients and families.
8. Participate in community-based services and scheduled nurse-led clinics.
9. Prescribe treatments within the scope of non-medical prescribing qualifications.
10. Adjust medications according to individual treatment plans for liver diseases.

Qualifications and Knowledge
* Masters level education or equivalent experience.
* Teaching certificate or extensive teaching experience.
* Advanced assessment qualification.
* Non-medical prescriber or willingness to undertake.
* Evidence of recent professional development.
* Recognised management or leadership qualification.
Experience
* Post-registration experience at Band 6/Band 7 level.
* Experience working in a multi-professional environment.
* Ability to work autonomously.
* Specialist knowledge in hepatology.
* Experience leading change and undertaking clinical audits.
* Proven commitment to gastroenterology nursing and experience with Hepatology/BBV conditions.
* Welsh speaking (Level 1).
