Position

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Occupational Therapy Assistant Practitioner based at Woodland View, Ayrshire Central Hospital. This post is offered on a permanent basis.


Hours

25.9 hours per week, between hours of 8.30am – 4.30pm, Monday to Friday.

From 1 April 2026, the working week for NHS Agenda for Change staff in Scotland will be reduced. Full‑time hours will reduce from 37 to 36 hours (pro rata for part‑time staff) without loss of earnings.


UK Driving Licence

A Full UK driving licence is essential to this role and is required to undertake community based interventions and treatment.


What You Will Do

The North Ayrshire Occupational Therapy Service are delighted to be advertising a Band 4 post located within Acute in‑patient mental health occupational therapy services. The post provides an opportunity to join our innovative and skilled team of Occupational Therapists, working within Woodland View Hospital, North Ayrshire providing a service to people across Ayrshire.

The post holder will carry their own caseload and be expected to work autonomously with supervision and support provided by a registered Occupational Therapist. The successful candidate will have a clinical remit to offer Occupational Therapy interventions to people in hospital and support transitions to home or a homely setting and to wider community resources, where required. The post holder will work to support people who experience complex physical and mental health conditions and will utilise occupation and activity to provide person‑centred interventions that promote skill maintenance or development in meaningful activity.

The post requires the successful candidate to communicate effectively with the wider multi‑disciplinary team, autonomously adjust interventions to meet current needs/identified risks and support the development of innovative models of care using evidence based practice and strengths based approaches. The post holder will work with registered Occupational Therapists to deliver interventions that support local and national drivers in improving patient and carer experience.

Knowledge, Training And/or Experience Required For This Post

* Line management supervision, caseload allocation and service development will be undertaken in collaboration with a Registered Occupational Therapist.
* There is an ongoing commitment to providing dynamic professional and clinical supervision which meet our wider staff and service needs.
* Active engagement with peers across services is supported as is multidisciplinary working.
* Support and development is promoted and encouraged through a variety of forums including participation in practice development groups, in house and external training.
* As a team we are keen to support flexible working practices which benefit the health and wellbeing aspirations of both our service users and staff.
* Previous experience as an Occupational Therapy support worker or other relevant role is desirable.
* The post holder will be trained to HCSW/SVQ or HNC level or have equivalent training or experience.
