An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Clinical Nurse Specialist in the Dermatology Outpatients Department.
We are looking for an enthusiastic person who is flexible and forward thinking, always ready for a challenge to join our busy team.
You will be responsible for managing practice within the Dermatology service, using an advanced level of professional accountability, autonomy and judgement for highly complex decision-making across a broad range of situations/conditions.
Main duties of the job
• To assess, plan and implement care to a group of patients and participate in providing a range of services within the Outpatient setting in accordance with the NMC code of professional conduct, Trust policies and procedures.
• To participate in the development of Dermatology specialist’s practitioner services by ensuring that clinics are efficient and patient centred
• To use communication skills in an empathetic manner so that patients and carers are able to manage potentially stressful, upsetting or emotional situations and that disease control is optimised.
• To make appropriate referrals to members of the multidisciplinary team in both primary and secondary care

Education, Qualification and Training
Essential criteria
* Registered Nurse/AHP
* Independent non - medical prescribing qualification
* Degree supplemented by post graduate diploma specialist training, experience, short courses, plus further specialist training to master’s equivalent level
Desirable criteria
* Leadership/management course relevant to health care environment
Skills and Abilities
Essential criteria
* Enhanced clinical skills and knowledge, working independently as an autonomous practitioner, exercising a high degree of freedom to act.
* Able to obtain, analyse and interpret information from patient assessment and interventions, to formulate diagnoses, plan and implement care plans
* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, using a range of methods e.g. verbal, written and record keeping
* Able to deal calmly, sensitively and professionally with patients, relatives and work colleagues within an MDT in a confidential manner
Desirable criteria
* Able to set and meet ambitious improvement standards/ targets and monitor these
* Able to deal with the demands of a rapidly developing and changing service
* A commitment to improving patient services through an ability to sustain a clear performance focus on achieving demanding goals
* A strong sense of personal and team accountability whist understanding the boundaries around delegated authority, responsibility, accountability and confidentiality
Knowledge & Experience
Essential criteria
* Recent experience/evidence of managing a caseload of Dermatology patients
* Clinical knowledge of Dermatological conditions and assessment and treatment
* NMR IRMER training
* An understanding of regional and national issues related to Dermatology
Desirable criteria
* Teaching experience / mentoring and assessing
* Demonstrate leadership skills and knowledge
* Experience of conducting research and audit, and of appraising evidence
* Experience of working in partnership with all levels of staff
* Experience in developing protocols, pathways, policies and service development
