Overview
It’s a fantastic time to work for the Environment Agency as we step forward to tackle the climate emergency. This role is within the Flood & Coastal Risk Management (FCRM) Improvements Portfolio. You will support the Portfolio Management Office and sub-portfolio project and programme work delivering substantial improvements to protect communities and businesses from flooding.
You will start up and inform new projects, help assure live projects, support project managers, build relationships with the Portfolio Management Office, and help improve and embed portfolio management and data practices. This is a great role for someone with data analytics and/or project management skills seeking experience at programme/portfolio level.
Note: This role is not eligible for Skilled visa sponsorship.
Responding to incidents is a central and important part of our work. You will be required to have an incident role (usually virtual) and be available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity during an incident. This may attract an additional payment and will include full training. Alternative working arrangements and full support will be available.
Responsibilities
* Start up and inform new projects; help assure live projects; support project managers.
* Build and maintain relationships with the Portfolio Management Office; embed and improve portfolio management and data practices.
* Contribute to delivering over £150m of improvements in the next three years and help inform changes to deliver outcomes that protect communities and businesses from flooding.
* Respond to incidents as required, including virtual incident roles and business continuity support.
Experience / Skills Required
* Formal project / programme management experience is essential.
* Highly numerate with data gathering, manipulation and interpretation skills; strong Excel experience; Power BI/Tableau or similar desirable.
* Experience in a project support role in a complex organisation using Agile and waterfall methodologies.
* Administrative and organisational skills; experience supporting regular governance meetings (agenda/minutes).
* Financial data management and project planning skills desirable.
* Ability to gain credibility and collaborative working relationships across the business.
* Experience tackling and automating routine issues with a continuous improvement mindset; ability to work with uncertainty and find innovative solutions.
