This is an exciting opportunity for a Consultant Psychiatrist to join our forensic health care team in East Sussex providing leadership to deliver high‑quality, person‑centred care to inpatient forensic patients on a subacute/rehabilitation medium secure ward. This post has become available due to retirement and internal reconfiguration of MSU bed‑estate.

Recruitment and Retention payment
£45,000 structured over a three‑year period as follows:
* £15,000 payable upon successful recruitment
* £10,000 payable at 12 months' service
* £10,000 payable at 24 months' service
* £10,000 payable at 36 months' service
Clinical responsibilities
Inpatient clinical caseload: 9 male patients on Elm subacute/rehabilitation ward, all detained under the Mental Health Act.
Key duties include:
* Deliver inpatient care and assessment of patients referred to the forensic service.
* Chair weekly recovery reviews (ward rounds) and CPA meetings; participate in risk clinics.
* Conduct independent assessments in collaboration with nursing/psychology staff.
* Attend MAPPA meetings and participate in the East Sussex on‑call rota.
* Provide clinical consultation and supervision to the team.
Strategic leadership & statutory roles
Provide clinical and strategic leadership for allocated elements of the teams, including:
* Direct clinical involvement in assessments, diagnosis, and management of complex mental health presentations.
* Preparation of MHA reports, tribunal attendance and MCA legislation compliance.
* Expert testimony to the Criminal Courts as required.
* Contribution to educational, service development and clinical governance/quality improvement processes.
Qualifications – Essential
* MBBS or equivalent medical qualification.
* Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practise at the time of appointment.
* Approved clinician status or achievement within 3 months of appointment.
* Approved under S12 or achievement within 3 months of appointment.
Qualifications – Desirable
* MRCPsych or equivalent.
* Additional clinical qualifications.
* Higher degree in medical education, clinical research or management.
* Evidence of teaching, research, audit and service improvement activities.
Clinical skills, knowledge & experience – Essential
* Ability to deliver undergraduate or postgraduate teaching and training.
* Collaborative working and shared leadership.
* Continuous professional development participation.
* Active participation in clinical audit and quality improvement programmes.
Clinical skills, knowledge & experience – Desirable
* Experience in clinical research and/or service evaluation.
* Evidence of achievement in education, research, audit and service improvement (awards, publications).
