We have an exciting opportunity for an innovative and dedicated Occupational Therapist Assistant with knowledge and experience in paediatrics, to be part of our team supporting children and young people from 0-18 years.
Main duties of the job
Band 4 - Occupational Therapy Assistant - Full Time

Our team works with children with a range of conditions that impact their ability to participate in activities of daily living.
We are based in West Ham Lane Health Centre and work in various settings such as clinics, homes, nurseries, Children's Centres, and education settings.
Within the Specialist Children and Young People's Service (SCYPS), the OTs form an integral part of a multidisciplinary therapies team working closely with Physiotherapists, Speech and Language Therapists, Dietitians, Paediatricians, and Specialist Nurses. Our mission is to make positive differences to people's lives by delivering high-quality services for the children and families of Newham.
We are a warm, welcoming, and supportive team of OTs and OTAs bringing diverse life experiences. We meet monthly as a whole team and enjoy four off-site team away days annually to recap, review, unwind, and bond. You will have monthly supervision with an experienced Band 5 OT and support to achieve annual appraisal targets, along with opportunities to update your CPD portfolio, participate in Service Improvement, Clinical Audit, and Quality Improvement projects.

* Assisting with administrative tasks
* Supporting team training sessions, both in person and virtually

Person Specification
Education/Qualification/Training
* GCSE or equivalent in English & Math, or demonstrate equivalent skills
* Good typing and computer skills, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
* Experience as an Occupational Therapy Assistant Band 3 in a healthcare setting with children and young people
* Knowledge of Occupational Therapy services for children
* Experience working in a busy team environment where teamwork is essential
Experience
* Ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of professionals in a multidisciplinary team, including health professionals, educators, and social services
* Ability to establish therapeutic relationships with children and their families, motivating participation in therapy
* Ability to maintain concentration and a proactive role during assessments and treatments
* Manual handling skills for positioning or transferring children
* Ability to carry out therapeutic activities involving gross and fine motor skills, using manual dexterity and stamina
Knowledge and Skills
* Understanding of normal child development and implications for children with additional needs
* Knowledge of legislation affecting work with children
* Sensitivity to multicultural client groups
* Understanding of clinical governance principles
* Knowledge of safe manual handling techniques
