What's involved with this role: Job Title: LGV Vehicle Technician Reference: Dorset 122100 Salary: £16.62-£18.85 per hour PAYE with accrued holiday and pension contribution DOE Hours: 37 hours per week Role length: 3 months opening assignment Job type: On-site Location: Charminster, Dorset Contract Type: Temporary The role: This hands-on position involves the maintenance and repair of Dorset Council’s diverse fleet of vehicles and plant. You’ll ensure that all vehicles remain safe, compliant, and operational with minimal downtime. Working primarily from the Charminster depot, you’ll also provide occasional roadside and out-of-hours support. Key Responsibilities: Carry out servicing, inspections, repairs, and MOT preparation Diagnose and repair mechanical and electrical faults across the fleet Maintain accurate records and comply with Health & Safety standards Provide roadside assistance and emergency callout support as needed Liaise professionally with internal and external stakeholders Clean vehicles and uphold workshop standards What the client is looking for: City & Guilds or NVQ Level 3 in Motor Engineering (or equivalent) Proven experience in LGV/vehicle maintenance Strong diagnostic and fault-finding abilities Good communication and IT skills Ability to work independently and manage time effectively Full UK Driving Licence Willingness to work in varying conditions and participate in callouts Must provide own toolkit (tool allowance available) Desirable: Experience with Local Authority or public sector fleets Familiarity with fleet management systems Please quote the Job Title & Vacancy Reference No. in your application, or we will be unable to match your CV to the role being applied for.
