Lung Cancer Clinical Nurse Specialist

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a temporary band 7 lung Cancer Clinical Nurse Specialist at St Richards hospital, part of University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust.
The successful applicant will be working as an integral part of the CNS and wider respiratory team, involved in all aspects of the patients' pathway from diagnosis and treatment, through to follow‑up and supporting patients living with an Lung cancer diagnosis.
The successful applicant will be keen to advance their clinical and leadership skills, taking on extended roles and looking to develop the service. They will be dynamic, forward thinking, hard working and keen to step up to the challenge that cancer care faces.

Main duties of the job
* To provide clinical excellence, leadership, innovation and mastery within a speciality, or group of specialities, through highly developed specialist knowledge.
* Providing specialist information and support for patients and carers during the diagnosis and treatment of cancer; ensuring patients have psychological assessment and intervention as necessary.
* Supporting MDT to ensure the patient has a timely journey through the pathway.
* Supporting, training and upskilling other teams.
* Co‑coordination of pathway with close working with cancer centre; management of cancer and treatment effects.
* Setting and working to high standards.
* Identifying specialist needs and care planning with patients through Holistic Needs Assessment.

Job responsibilities
Line management responsibility for Band 6 Lung nurse specialist (where in post), alternating with other band 7 Lung CNS. Post-holder will also be expected to promote development of staff and students, and function as a member of the senior nursing team within Cancer Services.
This role is eligible for visa sponsorship under the UK Visas & Immigration (UKVI) Skilled Worker route. Sponsorship can only be provided where applicants meet the specific requirements set by UKVI, including the relevant skill and salary thresholds (£25000), and any role‑specific criteria.

Qualifications / Experience
* Registered Nurse
* Educated to degree level or professional knowledge acquired through degree/diploma supplemented by specialist training, experience, short modules to Masters
* Specialist qualification in oncology or specialist related qualification or experience
* Teaching qualification
* Evidence of leadership development and/or qualification
* Experience of planning and implementing change in practice
* Knowledge and experience of risk management of clinical governance
* Used to supporting patients through bad news
* Teaching patients /staff/carers in a complex specialist field
* Experience of working in a large multidisciplinary team
* Ability to work autonomously and work well as a team
* Awareness of own limitations and able to respond appropriately when challenged
* Insight into self‑care and management of own stress levels
* Ability to work within team and influence and motivate others appropriately
* Overcome any barriers to communication
* Ability to deal with difficult/distressing circumstances with varying levels of complexity effectively
* Able to adapt area of practice to facilitate best management of patients using a flexible approach
* Ability to use specialist assessment skills plan, implement, evaluate and deliver care according to changing health needs and ensure patients who present with complex needs are referred to the appropriate clinicians
