Assistant Project Manager – Environment Agency

Position Summary – Assistant Project Manager responsible for supporting delivery of low to medium risk projects and gaining experience on major projects within the Environment Agency’s Flood & Coastal Erosion Risk Management Programme. Roles include project planning, feasibility, design, construction, handover, commercial acumen, stakeholder management and incident response duties.
Key Responsibilities
* Oversee and support project delivery from initial strategic planning through feasibility, detailed design, construction and handover.
* Apply commercial acumen in project, contract and risk management while following governance procedures and legislation.
* Establish effective relationships with stakeholders such as statutory authorities, landowners and communities to negotiate consents, approvals and external funding.
* Make project decisions informed by technical leads and maintain resilient stakeholder relationships.
* Participate in incident response duties when required, with occasional travel to project sites and partner offices.
Qualifications & Experience
* Degree (or equivalent) in engineering, environmental, geography or related discipline.
* Experience in a project and contract management environment, preferably within engineering, construction or flood & coastal risk management.
* Desirable experience in feasibility assessment, asset management, business case development, cost monitoring/forecasting, scope preparation, CDM, engineering design or construction.
* Strong interpersonal and influencing skills for relationship management of internal and external stakeholders.
* Working toward chartered membership of ICE, CIWEM or APM is desirable but not essential.
* If you have transferable skills and enthusiasm for the role, we encourage you to apply even if you don’t have experience in flood risk management.
