About The Trust

We're one of the UK’s biggest charities and we care for 2,000 miles of canals, rivers, docks and reservoirs because we believe life is better by water. We're looking for people who support our cause and want to make a difference for future generations. Could this be you?

Along with our waterways we also manage museums, archives and the country's third largest collection of historic buildings, as well as the nature and wildlife that calls our canals home. All of this enables us to provide wellbeing opportunities for millions of people each year.

Our role and opportunity

The Trust holds the most comprehensive historic collection of inland waterways material in the world. It consists of over 18,000 accessioned objects – including sixty-eight historic boats. It is Accredited and Designated as being of national significance, with many of the boats on the National Historic Ships Register, with twelve vessels part of the National Historic Fleet.

Working in the Collections Team the role will develop, manage, and care for the objects belonging to the Trust in accordance with Museum Accreditation and Designated status. They will help make accessible the collections in ways that realise their potential to enrich people’s lives and contribute to the wider success and resilience of the Trust. The ideal applicant will have experience in a museum collections/curatorial team, working with (and managing where appropriate) large groups of volunteers, and be confident interacting with a variety of our stakeholders.
