Overview
This is an exciting opportunity to join our team of phlebotomists working for the Calderdale & Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust at the Community Diagnostic Centres. An experienced and enthusiastic individual will work at Broad Street in Calderdale and Southgate in Huddersfield.
The successful candidate must have excellent communication skills, be able to work under pressure, record data accurately, and have an approachable nature. Full and extensive departmental training will be provided.
Main duties of the job
The phlebotomy team delivers a high‑quality patient‑focused blood‑taking service across Calderdale and Kirklees, mainly at community diagnostic centres. Main responsibilities include:
* Conducting venepuncture and blood collection procedures.
* Using IT to book appointments, access the intranet, Q‑pulse and related e‑mail.
* Maintaining patient dignity, confidentiality and Trust Aseptic Non‑Touch Technique Policy (ANTT).
* Keeping phlebotomy trolleys, cupboards and drawers stocked and tidy.
* Performing surveys or audits when requested.
* Handling staff and patient queries and referring appropriately.
* Covering other staff and undertaking additional duties as directed by the Phlebotomy Operations Manager / CT Service Lead.
The role requires a seven‑day, 08:00‑20:00 service, including bank holidays, with flexibility to adapt to changing service requirements.
Person Specification
Qualifications & Training
* GCSE level A*‑D or equivalent in Mathematics & English.
* Level 2 NVQ/QCF or equivalent in healthcare or customer‑service related subject.
* Willingness to complete further training to support the role.
Knowledge, Experience & Expertise
* Experience in a health‑care or customer‑service setting.
* Understanding of legislation, policies and procedures.
* Ability to work under pressure with patients as priority.
* Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office.
* Physical ability to lift, bend, push, pull and stand for long periods.
* Suitable transport to work in the community and visit patients at home.
* Previous experience with Point of Care testing equipment.

* Effective communication skills across a wide range of individuals.
