Health Promotion Nurse Reports to:Keeping Well Service Co-ordinator Hours:16 hours per week - 2 full days per week across a 5-day working week (Monday-Friday) Location: Various locations across N.I. via our regional Keeping Well Service - Seeking additional cover in Northern Trust (Mid-Ulster locality) Campaign Service/Cause: Health Promotion Remuneration:£32,643 - £34,666 pro rata (FTE 35hrs) Overall Purpose of Post Our Health Promotion Nurses work as part of the Cancer Focus Northern Ireland Health Improvement and Community Wellbeing team, carrying out individual health assessments and delivering health information and awareness sessions to promote key messages on cancer prevention and health and wellbeing. This work is delivered across a range of settings via the Keeping Well mobile health service, reaching community groups, corporate partners, and a wide range of beneficiaries such as mens groups, womens groups and sports clubs. Key Responsibilities Service Delivery and Information Management Provide health assessments i.e. blood pressure, blood glucose, CO2 & body composition checks in various locations as agreed with the Community Wellbeing Manager. Offer support, advice and health education literature (where appropriate) at assessment and information with an emphasis on cancer awareness. Promote wider health improvement messages were appropriate such as stop smoking support and skin cancer awareness. Liaise with the Community Wellbeing Manager regarding retaining and collation of statistical information including service evaluation and monitoring. Governance and Quality Assurance Work within the guidelines of the Nursing Midwifery Councils Code of Professional Conduct and maintain ongoing professional development including clinical, social and psychological issues in accordance with the NMC Post Registration and Practice (PREP) standards. Recording of necessary assessment data and ensuring that a strict data protection policy is adhered to ensure it is stored confidentially in line with best practice in GDPR principles. Adhere to Cancer Focus NI policies and procedures ensuring equipment is properly maintained and materials are disposed of safely after use, in full compliance with strict hygiene procedures at all times. External Relationships Represent Cancer Focus NI at relevant meetings and events as required. Co-operate with other Cancer Focus NI departments to help achieve the overall aims and objectives of the charity. General Work as part of a multi-disciplinary team to support service users, those living with cancer and their families. Represent and promote Cancer Focus NI and its objectives as required. Promote existing Cancer Focus NI services as appropriate. Comply with Cancer Focus NI policies, procedures and guidelines, including those relating to Equal Opportunities, Health & Safety, Safeguarding and Record Keeping. Undertake any other duties as may reasonably be required. This post may require occasional evening or weekend work and will require an element of flexible working. PersonSpecification The below specification shows the essential skills, abilities, knowledge and/or qualifications required to be able to carry out the duties of this post. Essential Criteria Experience A minimum of one years experience of delivering health promotion within a community setting within the last five years. Experience and knowledge of cancer nursing. Experience of working within a multi-disciplinary team. An understanding and knowledge of audit and service evaluation. Qualifications Registered Nurse on the live NMC register, Part 1: Level 1. Skills Evidence of strong interpersonal skills, including excellent verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to provide both one to one and group sessions. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment as part of a team. Ability to record and interpret patient data whilst making recommendations to improve health outcomes. Evidence of having received training in communication skills or counselling. Excellent time keeping and self-management skills. Ability to use Microsoft Office, e-mail and internet. Personal Qualities To be able to provide a person-centred approach. Ability to provide empathy and compassion. Other Ability to work two full days per week across a five-day working week (Monday Friday). Staff will be made aware of shift patterns in advance. Applicants will hold a full, current driving license and have access to the use of a car or some other appropriate form of transport to carry out the duties of the post. Desirable Criteria Qualifications Degree in nursing. Third level qualification in health promotion or relevant subject. Skills Experience of operating data management systems or similar software. The activities of this role meet the Access NI definition of regulated activity relating to regular access to HSC records as outlined in the Access NI Code of Practice. Cancer Focus NI will obtain an Access NI Enhanced check for the successful candidate. Evidence of appropriate vehicle documentation (i.e. driving licence and insurance cover) must be provided where the role necessitates travel on company business in own vehicle.
