Overview
The post-holder will be expected to participate in the neurology registrar on-call rota. Undertaking up to four outpatient clinics per week at Royal Preston Hospital and peripheral hospitals, under consultant supervision. There may be times you will be asked to provide cover for other outpatient clinics during periods of leave or sickness. The post will enable the post holder to gain further experience in clinical neurology in a supportive environment. Significant clinical learning opportunities are available, with weekly clinical and academic meetings, case presentations and frequent clinical teaching. Although this is not a formal training post, the post holder will be allocated an educational supervisor.
Responsibilities
* Working with the neurology education lead to deliver high quality neurology education to medical students from University of Manchester, based at Royal Preston Hospital.
* Undertaking up to three outpatient clinics a week at Royal Preston Hospital and peripheral hospitals, under consultant supervision.
* Managing inpatients in the regional neurology ward based at Royal Preston Hospital.
* You will also be expected to participate in the neurology registrar on-call rota.
About the organisation
The regional neurosciences service, based at The Royal Preston Hospital, comprises Neurology, Neurophysiology, Neurosurgery and Neurorehabilitation, with close links to Neuroradiology, Neuropsychology, Neuropathology and Paediatric Neurology, all based at RPH. The population served by the Neurosciences Centre is 1.6 million from the catchment area of Lancashire and South Cumbria. The Neurology Department has acute neurology and short-stay beds on Bleasdale ward. There is a complement of 9 Consultant Neurologists, neurology registrars and a team of speciality trainee doctors. The speciality trainee doctors rotate through General Medicine. There are regular outpatient clinics at Royal Preston Hospital, Chorley and South Ribble District General Hospital, Burnley General Hospital, Blackpool Victoria Hospital, Royal Blackburn Hospital and Royal Lancaster Infirmary. There are Specialist Nurses in Parkinson\'s Disease, Epilepsy, Multiple Sclerosis, Neuromuscular and MND who work alongside the Consultant Neurologists.
