Consultant Gastroenterologist (Interest in Inflammatory Bowel Disease)
Join to apply for the Consultant Gastroenterologist (Interest in Inflammatory Bowel Disease) role at East Kent Hospitals University NHS Foundation Trust
We are looking for a skilled and enthusiastic Gastroenterologist with a special interest in Inflammatory Bowel Disease to join the William Harvey Hospital team at Ashford. We have approximately 5,400 IBD patients in East Kent, with around 930 on advanced therapies.
The candidate should have an interest and ideally expertise in managing complex IBD, with the ability to lead and develop the trustwide IBD team and contribute to regional working groups. Short‑term plans include the development of transition clinics and joint medical/surgical clinics for patients with complex disease in line with GIRFT recommendations.
The current trustwide IBD team, led by two consultant Gastroenterologists, includes a nurse consultant and four IBD nurses. We hold a fortnightly trustwide IBDMDT supported by a histopathologist, radiologist and colorectal surgeons.
Outpatient templates and endoscopy lists for the appointee will be balanced towards IBD patients.
We will work with the successful candidate to develop specialist interests such as hepatobiliary, hepatology, and complex polyp services, or to develop new services for our Trust such as GI physiology and endoscopic ultrasound. The post holder will also support the GI Bleeding rota and a 1:8 Gastroenterology ward week, including in‑reach to the emergency pathways.
We are one of the largest hospital trusts in England, with three acute hospitals and community sites serving a local population of around 700,000. We also provide specialist services for Kent and Medway.
We’re on an exciting journey of transformation. With a new Medical School at the centre of our community, a focus on research, clinical leadership, and making our trust a rewarding and friendly place to work, there’s never been a better time to join us.
