Job Summary Surrey and Borders Partnership NHS Foundation Trust invites applications for a Consultant Psychiatrist to join our adult inpatient service at Vega Ward, Silverwood Hospital. The post offers clinical input to inpatients, clinical leadership, and involvement in service improvement, teaching, audit, and research. The role is permanent and full‑time.
Responsibilities
Deliver consultant‑level psychiatric input for patients admitted to the ward in line with the Acute Service Operational Policy.
Provide clinical leadership and collaborate with multi‑professional teams to ensure continuity of care during hand‑overs.
Participate in service improvement initiatives, quality audits, and research projects.
Contribute to teaching and supervision of trainees.
Attend the Surrey‑wide WAA on‑call rota (approximately 1:30 per duty).
Essential Qualifications and Experience
MBBS or equivalent recognised medical qualification.
Full registration with the GMC and licence to practise.
Approval under Section 12 of the Mental Health Act (or within 12 months of interview).
Included on the GMC Specialist Register or ability to achieve registration within six months.
Knowledge of legislation, MHA / MCA duties, NHS Next Stage Review, and psychiatric provision.
Experience working with inpatient and community psychiatric populations of varying severity.
Excellent clinical skills using a bio‑psycho‑social approach and wide medical knowledge.
Desirable Qualifications
Higher degree (MD, PhD, MSc) or other clinical qualifications.
MRCPsych or equivalent.
Management qualification or evidence of commitment to leadership.
Research publications or audit projects.
Teaching experience for undergraduate/postgraduate training.

Salary: NHS Consultant Grade £113,565 – £150,569, plus £149 fringe allowance and on‑call payments.
