Job Description

East Suffolk Council is seeking a Heritage Officer (Band 6/7) or an Assistant Heritage Officer (Band 5) to join the Design and Heritage team within the Planning and Building Control Service. The role works alongside other Design and Heritage Officers and collaborates with Landscape, Arboricultural and Ecology teams.


Key Information

* Salary: £31,537 – £42,839 per annum (Band 5/7)
* Hours: 37 hours per week
* Contract: Permanent


Heritage Officer (Band 6/7)

Responsibilities:

* Comment on development management applications.
* Contribute to Nationally Significant Infrastructure projects.
* Commission and review Conservation Area assessments and appraisals, seeing them through to adoption.
* Conduct a major review of Article 4 Directions and extend their use.

Qualifications:

* Considerable experience in the historic environment, particularly with listed buildings and Conservation Areas.
* Strong theoretical, technical and practical knowledge of design and conservation of the built environment.
* Broad grounding in planning and building control issues.
* Associate or Full Member of the Institute of Historic Building Conservation, or at least an Affiliate.


Assistant Heritage Officer (Band 5)

Responsibilities:

* Support the Heritage Officer and Senior Design and Heritage Officers in providing heritage advice for planning applications.
* Assist in the preparation of planning policy documents.

Qualifications:

* Passion for the historic built environment.
* Independent and positive approach to safeguarding heritage.
* Skill in assessing development proposals and their heritage impacts.
* Ability to provide technical and design advice to listed building occupiers and Conservation Area residents.
