The apprenticeship in dental nursing is an 18‑month government funded course by City & Guilds, a Level 3 Extended Diploma. Alongside learning, the role supports dentists, sterilises equipment, manages reception duties and enhances patient experience while upholding high standards of care, confidentiality and GDPR compliance.
Responsibilities
* Welcoming patients and scheduling appointments
* Assisting clinicians during treatments and updating patient records
* Preparing surgeries, sterilising instruments and maintaining infection control to CQC standards
* Managing stock, equipment and surgery readiness
* Providing patient comfort, reassurance and overall dental experience
* Monitoring and supporting patients through effective communication and behavioural techniques
* Managing patient anxiety and arranging follow‑up care as prescribed
* Supporting the team with evidence‑based clinical practice and continuous improvement activities
* Communicating effectively with patients, colleagues and the public in written, spoken and electronic forms
* Maintaining accurate, contemporaneous patient records in accordance with legal requirements and best practice
* Acting with integrity, professionalism and cultural competence while safeguarding patient privacy and dignity
