Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Diabetes and Endocrinology team in the role of Service Manager.

This role will support the Medical Operational Management to deliver high quality care to our patients.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will be required to:

1. Provide management support on a daily basis. The main focus of this is to manage day to day operational issues, to ensure smooth running of all the directorate's services.
2. Assist the Operational Service Manager in the maintenance and development of clinics and clinic templates, appointment systems and scheduling.
3. Support the Operational Service Manager in investigating and responding to patient complaints and concerns, received in an appropriate and timely manner, in accordance with Trust policy.
4. To be responsible for the monitoring of patient pathways, including undertaking activity and waiting list monitoring, for both outpatient and inpatient patients to enable the specialty to meet access targets.

You will be responsible for line managing a team of secretarial and administrative staff. This will include a combination of acting as an appointment panel member, recruitment, conducting personal development reviews, dealing with the initial or subsequent stages of disciplinary, grievance, sickness absence and performance issues.

You will be responsible for ensuring that appropriate training is delivered to staff, and that individual staff members work allocation is managed effectively and reallocated as required to best meet the needs of the service.

Essential criteria

13. Educated to Degree Level OR have equivalent experience
14. Significant administrative experience including Staff Management/ Supervisory experience
15. Previous experience of dealing with sensitive and/or complex situations.

Desirable criteria

16. Experience of dealing with a wide range of service users
17. Understanding of RTT 18 week pathway

18. Self-discipline/motivated to function independently, but also able to motivate others

19. Possess a range of developed communication skills
20. Able to organise and prioritise both own workload and that of others as required.
21. Have the ability to exercise sound judgement in relation to problem solving and identifying situations requiring further advice
22. Able to function effectively as part of a team.

Desirable criteria

23. Experience of managing organisational change within a team e.g. restructures, changes to job requirements.
