This post offers the post holder the opportunity to work as part of a Multidisciplinary specialist Hand team including Orthopaedic Surgeons, Plastic Surgeons, Advanced Nursing Specialists, Nursing staff, Occupational Therapists and Physiotherapists. Referrals are received from Orthopaedics, Plastics, AED, First Contact Practitioners and GPs. We have a structured CPD and supervision program. You will receive direct supervision from a senior hand therapist.

Responsibilities
The team works as Hand Therapists bringing together the specialist techniques of occupational therapy and physiotherapy. Responsibilities include scar management, retraining, splinting and advice on activities of daily living; joint mobilisations; passive, active and resistive exercises and strengthening. Each team member has competency in splinting, exercise provision and wound care to improve hand and wrist function in patients referred to the service.

Experience (Essential):
* Post-registration experience, including experience of working in hand therapy and the NHS.
* Experience of supervision of students/junior staff/unregistered staff
* Experience of assessment, development, implementation and evaluation of hand therapy treatment programmes
Experience (Desirable):
* Experience of participating in clinical audit
* Experience in policy development
* Experience of developing innovative practice
* Experience of working in an MDT and across organisational and professional boundaries
Skills (Essential):
* Report writing / Presentation skills
* Computer literate – Word/Excel/PowerPoint
* Complex clinical reasoning skills and goal setting in hand therapy
* Teamwork and leadership abilities
* Time management, organisation and prioritisation
* Mentoring and advanced communication skills

Knowledge (Essential):
* Complex clinical reasoning and goal setting in hand therapy
* Management experience of Plastic Surgery, Orthopaedic & Rheumatological conditions

* Understanding NHS national targets and priorities

Qualifications (Essential):
* HCPC Registration (OT/Physiotherapist)
* Degree or equivalent recognised by RCOT/CSP
* Postgraduate study in hand therapy or equivalent experience
* Supporting Learning in Practice (SLIP) or equivalent experience supporting students
* Evidence of current CPD
Desirable:
* Member of the British Association of Hand Therapists
* Postgraduate qualification in hand therapy
* Leadership or management development qualification
* Advanced communication skills qualification
