Wood has an exciting long-term opportunity for an ambitious Engineering Manager to join our brownfield projects team on our Harbour Engineering Contract delivering critical emissions reduction and efficiency projects. The role requires a proven passion for fostering a high performing culture, delivering and innovating to a high standard within a cost competitive environment. A proven track record of strong engineering delivery on projects is essential.
Responsibilities
Responsible for the engineering execution of concurrent multi-discipline brownfield projects in alignment with the engineering scope of work and design basis. Key duties include:
* Driving technical assurance on the assigned scope(s) of work
* Managing, leading, supporting and supervising discipline engineering teams on the assigned scope(s) of work
* Managing key stakeholders in the execution and delivery of contracted activities
* Developing and retaining motivated and competent people
* Undertaking the role of process owner
* Driving safety by design
* Driving and leading opportunities for innovation
* Continuous promotion of corporate/client specific procedures
* Assist in incident investigations as required
* Monitor compliance with standards and processes to assure delivery
* Roll out and implement learning opportunities across the business
* Drive continual focus on process safety through the engineering team
* Eliminate technical incidents through robust controls, incident reviews and embedding lessons learned
* Identify and mitigate areas of risk and improvement opportunities
* Manage and lead, support and supervise the multidiscipline engineering team
* Plan, organize, direct, control and evaluate activities and operations of a multidiscipline engineering team
* Assist in recruitment, selection, transfers, performance management, succession planning and promotion of resources
* Ensure appropriately resourced and competent personnel on project/contract oversight and control of Engineering Histogram to support workforce planning
* Assist in setting and maintaining standards for development and retention of motivated and competent people
* Responsible for engineering content of project execution plans for assigned contracts/projects
* Manage and direct resources efficiently and effectively
* Consult and negotiate with clients to prepare specifications, explain proposals and present engineering reports and findings
* Assign, coordinate and review the technical work of the department or project teams
* Focus on managerial concerns such as cost, completion date, and resource allocation
* Provide expert resolution of issues and monitor integration of work
* Review technical concepts of major projects
* Personally participate in solving difficult technical problems
* Resolve conflicts and manage divergent audiences
* Facilitate agreement between conflicting parties
* Resolve non-recurring and occasionally novel issues
* Carry responsibility for resolution of major problems within the engineering segment
* Assist in identifying and requesting functional support to projects/contracts as required
* Accountable for efficient planning and management of engineering resources, identifying and pursuing opportunities for margin improvement, including HVEC utilisation
* Develop and implement policies, standards and procedures for engineering and technical work performed in the department
* Direct application of existing principles and development of new policies and strategies aligned with OU, BU and Corporate objectives
* Act as conduit for regulatory framework, legislation changes, initiatives and industry technology developments
* Establish and maintain effective working relationships and communicate across business interfaces
* Interact with Heads of Disciplines, Head of Engineering to ensure resourcing of competent personnel
* Engage with business/functional community and promote the function including networking and knowledge sharing
* Build strong collaborative relationships with client stakeholders, especially Client Delivery and Technical Teams
* Communicate and cooperate with external stakeholders including industry bodies, academia, vendors, client interface, market intelligence, and relevant conferences
Qualifications
* ISCED Level 6 Bachelor’s (minimum) degree or Level 7 Masters (preferred) in an engineering discipline
* Chartered Engineer/Registered Professional Engineer or equivalent with recognised professional body
Experience, Skills and Knowledge
* 10+ years of progressive experience in discipline engineering
* Balance of technical and management experience at relevant level and position
* Several years of supervisory experience with understanding of human relations, training, performance evaluation and health and safety
* Broad and extensive knowledge of engineering theories and techniques and high level of skill in application of this knowledge in engineering management
* Capable of representing business and client to associates in a professional manner
* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, capable of influencing people at all levels
* Skillful in forecast planning for people resources
* Skillful in recruitment and selection, employee communication and management including performance management
* Able to implement and embed standards and processes to effect delivery of engineering excellence
* Good knowledge of regulatory framework and associated legislation
* Current knowledge of industry and technology development within area of expertise
* Expert in engineering excellence
* Able to carry out audit and incident investigations
* Good project management skills
* Skillful in mediation and dispute resolution
* Financial and commercial awareness
