Consultant Psychiatrist – General Adult – Living Well
Full‑time substantive Consultant Psychiatrist for the Living Well Model in Oldham. This is a community post based at Cherrywood Outpatients Clinic, Royal Oldham Hospital. The role involves clinical leadership, management of a multidisciplinary team, service development, and teaching.
Responsibilities
* Provide expert advice to GPs for patients not currently open to secondary care mental health services, including medication advice, signposting, clinical management and diagnostic advice.
* Deliver the Living Well service on a daily basis, Monday to Friday.
* Work across Oldham as a consultant psychiatrist, delivering clinical leadership to the multidisciplinary team.
* Engage in managerial duties: develop and expand the team, deliver training to new members and champion the service with stakeholders.
* Collaborate with other teams and consultants to ensure coherent, high‑quality care for adults with severe and enduring mental health problems.
* Attend local and divisional service‑development meetings.
Qualifications – Essential
* MBBS or equivalent medical qualification.
* Fully registered with the GMC, licence to practise at the time of appointment.
* Included on the GMC Specialist Register or within six months of anticipated award of a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in General Adult Psychiatry at interview.
* Approved clinician status or able to achieve within three months of appointment.
* Approved under S12 or able to achieve within three months of appointment.
* Excellent knowledge in the specialty and clinical skills using a bio‑psycho‑social perspective.
* Excellent oral and written communication skills in English.
* Ability to manage clinical complexity and uncertainty.
* Decision‑making based on evidence, experience and contribution of others.
* Ability to meet duties under MHA and MCA.
* Ability to deliver undergraduate or postgraduate teaching and training.
* Participation in continuous professional development, research or service evaluation, and clinical audit.
Qualifications – Desirable
* Higher degree or qualification in medical education, clinical research or management.
* MRCPsych or equivalent recognised by the Royal College of Psychiatrists.
* Additional clinical qualifications.
* Experience in clinical research and/or service evaluation.
* Evidence of achievement in education, research, audit and service improvement (e.g., awards, presentations, publications).
* Experience leading clinical audits resulting in service change.
* Wide range of specialist and sub‑specialist experience relevant to the post within the NHS.
Eligibility – Essential
* Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practise at the time of appointment.
* Included on the GMC Specialist Register or within six months.
* Approved clinician status or able to achieve within three months.
* Approved under S12 or able to achieve within three months.
Eligibility – Desirable
* In good standing with GMC with respect to warning and conditions on practice.

Contract & Salary
Permanent, full‑time. Salary: £109,725 to £145,478 per year, pro‑rata. Pay scheme: Hospital medical and dental staff.
