Oxford United Boys Academy are looking to add to their already excellent team of part-time medical staff with the addition of a new Development Therapist to work within our U9-U16 programme. This would be an ideal opportunity for a newly qualified Physiotherapist or Sports Therapist wishing to increase their experience in a football through a supportive and developmental role. There is also the potential for this role to expand in line with the continued growth of the Academy as we strive to achieve Category Two status.
Main purpose of role:
To engage fully with the Academy Therapist Development programme. To carry out midweek evening training and weekend matchday pitch side medical cover for OUFC academy home and away games, as designated by the department and in line with the Elite Player Performance Plan (EPPP).
Hours of Work:
-2-3 evening or weekend U9-16 match-day & clinic support shifts per month (rostered in monthly depending on availability).
-Opportunity to attend voluntary CPD shifts with the full-time U19, U23 or First Team squads at the Bangkok Glass training ground.
-Engage as fully as possible around other commitments with the comprehensive Academy Sports Science and Medicine CPD programme.
Remuneration Package:
-£75/100 per clinic/fixture.
-Statutory annual leave entitlement.
-Comprehensive CPD programme.
Key responsibilities
Mid-week evening training:
•Arrive at least 15 minutes before session scheduled start time.
•To provide pitch side medical cover and injury rehabilitation for all Academy players as dictated by Head of Academy Medical Services.
•Ensure all medical emergency equipment is checked and placed in the designated position pitch side.
•To carry out any pre-session assessments for Academy players, as and when required.
•To implement required first aid/acute injury management during training as required in line with Academy and ITMMiF first aid trauma guidelines.
•To assess and treat any injuries during sessions ensuring an evidence-based rehabilitation plan is in place for each injured player.
•To communicate player injury, treatment details and follow up plan to the players parent and coach.
•To ensure a thorough and detailed handover is sent to the Head of Academy Medical Services upon completion of training.
•To complete and send medical notes to the Head of Academy Medical Services in line with HCPC and CSP guidelines within 24 hours of interventions.
Weekend match cover:
•Arrive at least 90 minutes before kick-off.
•To provide pitch side medical cover for all Academy home and away games as dictated by Head of Academy Medical Services.
•Ensure all medical emergency equipment is checked and placed in the designated position pitch side.
•To carry out any pre-match assessments for Academy players, as and when required.
•To implement required first aid/acute injury management during training as required in line with Academy and ITMMiF first aid trauma guidelines.
•To assess and treat any injuries post game and ensure an appropriate acute injury management plan is in place for each injured player.
•To communicate player injury, treatment details and follow up plan to the players’ parent and coach.
•To ensure a thorough and detailed handover is sent to the Head of Academy Medical Services upon completion of matches.
•To complete and send medical notes to the Head of Academy Medical Services in line with HCPC and CSP guidelines within 24 hours of interventions.
•All employees may be required to undertake any other duties as may be reasonably requested.
Key requirements :
•Minimum of BSc (Hons) in Physiotherapy or Sports Therapy.
•HCPC or SST accredited practitioner.
•Up to date Intermediate Trauma Medical Management in Football (ITMMiF) qualification.
•Excellent communications skills, both written and verbally.
•Confident, self-motivated and able to work under pressure.
•Ability to work collaboratively with players, parents and staff.
•Sound knowledge of manual therapy skills and sports rehabilitation.
•Sound knowledge of injury prevention methods and recovery strategies.
•Ability to educate, advise and motivate individuals.
•Preferably experience in an elite sports environment, especially with children and adolescents.
•Demonstrates up to date knowledge of the current evidence base and implement this within their practice.
•Candidates must be flexible and be willing to work hours as necessary to carry out their duties. This may include the covering matches and changing of venues at short notice.
•Candidate will need to perform duties at home match and away match venues, with the possibility of travel abroad, if necessary.
•A full UK drivers’ licence and access to your own vehicle would be advantageous
