Nottingham Trams Limited offers a green, convenient, and affordable way to travel through Nottingham City and the surrounding areas. Opened in 2004 and extended in 2015 with NET Phase 2, the network covers all major employment sites, universities, Nottingham College, and main attractions, including places to eat, drink, and shop. The engineering department manages all assets within Nottingham Trams, excluding the trams themselves, with a team of around 45 staff.
We are seeking an Assistant Technician Apprentice. Outstanding apprentices may be considered for further college training up to Level 4/5 and potential progression to Deputy Technician.
The apprentice will work in 2-3 person teams, remotely maintaining Nottingham Trams infrastructure across Nottingham & Nottinghamshire. Responsibilities include:
1. Performing planned maintenance on track, switches & crossings, signalling systems, power generation & distribution, overhead lines, and civil infrastructure.
2. Responding to faults, failures, or disruptions to maintain or restore tram services, ensuring safety for the public and staff by following safe systems of work.
3. Using specialist tools and equipment to carry out tasks.
4. Undertaking vocational training, which may include certifications such as Forklift (Counterbalance), IPAF (3A, 3B, 1B), HVAP, NRSWA (Operative), HGV (Category C), PASMA (Tower), along with internal and external training sessions.
The role involves working on an 8-week roster: early shifts (06:00 - 14:00), late shifts (14:00 - 22:00), night shifts (22:00 - 06:00 every 16 weeks), including weekends. Due to night work requirements, applicants must be aged 18 or above.
