Your role: To lead the Utilities team and ensure that the routine operational requirements are met and that there is a focus on continual improvement. Act as leader and coach of the Utilities team providing direction and support to: Ensure that the Utilities are produced and distributed in a manner that meets the Safety, Quality, Cost, environmental and service requirements. To develop & lead continuous improvement programme for utilities To oversee all aspects of the Utilities, shift operations function including, labour resource management that ensures operational standards and key result areas are achieved. To ensure 100% service and continuous utility supply to the internal customer 24hours per day, 365 days per year. The role of Utilities involves being a point of contact for our internal customers in the event of any interruption in utility supply. Good communication with internal customers is an essential element. Your Responsibilities: • Leadership and Direction setting : Establish clear continuous improvement goals and expectations for team (direct & indirect) and provide inspiration and consistent encouragement to meet goals including measurement against achievable targets. • Manage : Performance management process, ensure all members of the operations team have clear objectives, agreed development plan and progress is tracked through regular 1:1 and formal check ins. • Coaching : Serve as the coach for a substantially self-directed team by developing capabilities of team members and supporting team needs through role as representative of the team to the site and other groups. • Financial – Ensure optimum production and distribution of the site utilities, having responsibility and management control for identified team expense budgets. • Operational excellence : Formulate & implement Utilities team strategic business planning process. Ensure services provided by the team to site meet their needs for Safety, Quality, Reliability, in a cost-effective manner. Plan and co-ordinate work within the Utilities group to ensure that internal customer requirements are satisfied. These include the escalation of emergency engineering work requests with the maintenance team and assurance of a reliable and continuous supply of site utilities at the defined quality parameters. Ensure Utilities team members understand business priorities & implement any initiatives required efficiently. • EHS – Accountable for ensuring that Environmental, Health & Safety standards are achieved and maintained. Support the work necessary to meet EHS/PSM requirements. (Audits, EHS Meetings, Incident Investigation, Safe Work Practice) • Energy Centre : Accountable for the Management of the CHP (Combined Heat & Power) plant through a third party. Ensuring that the third party meet their contractual obligations and driving them for continual improvement. • Technical – Act as a focal point for the team in providing focus for process and technical input. Ensure that routine activities are conducted in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures and cGMP guidelines. • Communication – Network with internal customers and external suppliers to maximise overall effectiveness of the services provided by the utilities team. Facilitate group meetings / briefing sessions that support and give continuity to the shift operation. (e.g., huddles, shift h an dovers, shift logs etc.) What You Need to Succeed (minimum qualifications): BEng/BSc in engineering discipline (mechanical / electrical / chemical) Minimum 5 years’ experience in management role Experience leading change programmes Key Competencies / Skills Challenging existing practices Curiosity Change management Influencing skills Communication Data analysis Additional Information: Reporting to the Snr Director of Operations, the Utilities Manager is responsible for a team consisting of: 1. Utilities Operations (5 direct reports) 2. Process Engineer (indirect report) 3. Maintenance Support Engineer (indirect report) 4. Oversight of the Energy Centre through a 3 rd party contract.
