Due to the continued success and expansion of our business, an exciting opportunity has arisen for a HGV Driver/Yard Operative to join our team at Crowborough .
The Role
We are seeking a reliable and hardworking HGV Driver/Yard Operative to join our team at a busy Builder’s Merchant. This dual-role position involves delivering building materials to customers using an HGV vehicle (often with a HIAB crane), as well as assisting with general yard duties such as loading/unloading vehicles, organising stock, and maintaining a safe and tidy yard.
Key Responsibilities:
As HGV Driver:
Operate HGV vehicles safely and efficiently for deliveries and collections.
Ensure timely and accurate deliveries to trade and domestic customers.
Conduct vehicle checks and ensure the vehicle is roadworthy and compliant.
Operate HIAB/crane equipment (if applicable) safely and in accordance with training.
Maintain delivery documentation and report any discrepancies or issues.
Represent the company professionally at all times, ensuring excellent customer service.
As Yard Operative:
Load and unload deliveries using forklifts or other equipment as required.
Check and store incoming goods, ensuring quality and accuracy.
Pick, pack, and prepare orders for collection or delivery.
Maintain a clean, safe, and organised yard environment.
Follow health & safety procedures and report any hazards or incidents.
Assist customers in the yard in a helpful and professional manner.
Requirements:
Valid HGV Class 2 licence.
HIAB licence preferred (training may be provided).
Forklift licence an advantage.
Previous experience in a builder’s merchant or similar industry is beneficial.
Excellent timekeeping and communication skills.
Strong focus on safety, teamwork, and customer service.
Hours of Work
Week:1 Monday to Friday 7:00am to 5:00pm
Week:2 Monday to Friday 7:00am to 5:00pm Saturday 08:00-12:30
