The Opportunity
We’re seeking a Company Accountant to manage the everyday financial operations of our business. This hands-on role is ideal for someone experienced in core finance tasks—from managing ledgers and processing payroll, to preparing financial reports and maintaining strong cashflow controls.
You’ll work closely with operational and leadership teams to ensure the smooth financial functioning of the company, but without the added responsibility of group-wide reporting or strategic forecasting.
Key Responsibilities
* Manage purchase and sales ledgers, ensuring accurate invoice processing, BACS payments, and credit control.
* Process payroll (weekly/monthly) using Sage and manage related records like holiday pay and personnel costs.
* Prepare and maintain cashflow forecasts and working capital tracking.
* Support bank reconciliations, VAT returns, and monthly financial reports (e.g. P&L, Trial Balance).
* Maintain the Fixed Asset Register and oversee basic stock reconciliation.
* Liaise with external partners including HMRC, auditors, and suppliers.
* Support basic financial compliance and ensure accurate record-keeping.
What You’ll Bring
* Experience in hands-on financial operations, particularly in managing ledgers and payroll.
* Proficiency with Sage and Microsoft Excel.
* Familiarity with UK accounting principles and reporting.
* A relevant accountancy qualification (AAT, ACCA, etc.) is desirable.
* Attention to detail and strong organisational skills.
* Clear communication style, especially when collaborating with non-finance colleagues.
* Previous experience in manufacturing or engineering (preferred but not essential).
Benefits
* Salary: £40,000 per annum
* Pension scheme
* Westfield Health Benefit Scheme
* 25 days of holiday plus UK bank holidays
* Hybrid working flexibility available
