Service Engineer: Plant Machinery (Workshop + Field)

The Business
Abusy, growing plant machinery business based in Northampton is looking to add an additional Service Engineer due to increased workload. The business works across a mixed range of new and used plant machinery and needs someone practical, hands‑on and comfortable with variety.
The Role
This is a hands‑on role supporting both the workshop and on‑site work. The current split is roughly 70 workshop / 30 field, but the field element is expected to grow overtime as service demand increases.
Key Responsibilities
* PDI and preparation of new and used plant machinery
* Routine servicing and maintenance
* Fault finding and repairs (workshop and on‑site)
* Breakdown support and customer call‑outs as required
* Mechanical, hydraulic and basic electrical diagnostics
* Working on attachments and associated equipment (e.g. buckets / breakers)
* Accurate jobsheets/service paperwork and clear communication with the workshop team
About You
* Proven experience working on heavy plant/construction machinery
* Strong mechanical and hydraulic servicing / fault finding skills
* Basic electrical diagnostics capability (not a heavily electrical role)
* Self‑sufficient, practical and happy to muck in wherever needed
* Comfortable working in both the workshop and out on site
* Full UK driving licence
* NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) – ideal (or time served with strong plant experience)
* Background from plant hire / mixed fleet / independent service environments highly relevant
