JOB DESCRIPTION

JUNIOR PROJECT ENGINEER (FREELANCE PART-TIME)

Location: Remote (UK or International)

Contract Type: Freelance / Independent Contractor

Time Commitment: ~15 hours per week (flexible schedule)

Reporting to: Lead Project Engineer

we are a UK-based engineering company specialising in the design and integration of advanced industrial and energy systems.

Our projects involve multidisciplinary engineering, safety-critical equipment, and compliance with international certification and quality standards (ATEX, IEC, ISO, etc.).

The company works on innovative energy and industrial systems including:

1. Packaged energy systems
2. Microturbine enclosures
3. Heat-exchanger modules
4. Fuel conditioning systems
5. Control enclosures
6. Other safety-critical industrial equipment

We operate as a small, highly technical engineering team delivering real industrial projects.

we are seeking a Junior Project Engineer (Freelance) to support ongoing engineering and documentation activities.

The role is part-time (~15 hours per week) and suited to:

7. a final-year engineering student, or
8. a recent engineering graduate seeking practical experience.

The Junior Engineer will assist with technical documentation, design coordination, and project support tasks across multiple engineering disciplines.

Prior experience with regulated systems (ATEX, IEC, ISO) is not required, but the candidate must be organised, detail-oriented, and capable of working independently in a structured engineering environment.

3. Key Responsibilities

3.1 Engineering Design Support

9. Assist in preparing engineering drawings, layouts, and technical schematics.
10. Support design reviews and track engineering action items.
11. Coordinate inputs between mechanical, electrical, control, and fabrication disciplines.

3.2 Technical Documentation & Compliance

12. Prepare and maintain engineering documentation such as:
13. specifications
14. reports
15. compliance checklists
16. technical notes
17. Support assembly of project technical files for certification and compliance.
18. Organise supplier datasheets, certificates, and technical documentation.
19. Maintain document version control in accordance with structured engineering processes.

3.3 Project Coordination

20. Track engineering tasks and deliverables.
21. Prepare meeting minutes and action lists.
22. Communicate with suppliers or subcontractors to obtain technical information.
23. Assist with Bill of Materials (BoM) management and procurement tracking.

3.4 Testing & Validation Support

24. Assist in preparation of Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) documentation.
25. Support supervised testing activities and system integration.
26. Record test observations and produce structured reports.
27. Assist with identification and tracking of non-conformities.

3.5 Quality & Process Support

28. Support creation of internal engineering procedures and work instructions.
29. Ensure project documentation remains organised and traceable.
30. Maintain structured project folders and documentation archives.

4. Required Skills & Profile

Essential

31. Final-year engineering student or recent engineering graduate
32. Strong organisational and analytical skills
33. Good written English
34. Ability to follow structured engineering processes
35. Reliability, discipline, and attention to detail
36. Ability to work independently in a remote environment

Nice to Have

37. Basic CAD familiarity
38. Understanding of electrical diagrams or instrumentation
39. Previous internship or engineering project experience
40. Interest in industrial energy systems
