A1 Personnel are proud to be partnering with a leading manufacturer and trader of industrial chemicals, supplying a diverse global client base across multiple sectors. With a strong reputation for safety, compliance, and service excellence, this business is seeking an experienced Senior Transport Supervisor / Assistant Manager to strengthen its transport leadership team.
THE OPPORTUNITY:
This is a pivotal role for an ambitious transport professional who thrives in a highly regulated, fast-paced COMAH environment. Youll be responsible for supervising all transport operations, ensuring that deliveries are completed efficiently, legally, and in line with customer expectations.
Youll lead a team of HGV Class 1 drivers, oversee subcontractor performance, and act as a key point of contact between Transport Planners, Supervisors, and Customer Service. This is a role for someone with a sharp eye for compliance, a proactive approach to problem-solving, and strong leadership skills.
KEY RESPONSABILITIES:
1. Lead day-to-day transport operations, ensuring compliance with WTD, tacho legislation, and Operators Licence requirements.
2. Act as a mentor and point of escalation for drivers, planners, and supervisors.
3. Monitor performance using Microlise and challenge drivers where necessary.
4. Oversee subcontractor relationships and resolve operational issues effectively.
5. Plan and manage vehicle maintenance schedules, ensuring full statutory compliance.
6. Review routes and costs to optimise profitability and service levels.
7. Authorise driver pay, contractor costs, and ensure accurate documentation.
8. Provide operational reporting, including daily and weekly KPIs.
9. Investigate incidents and support disciplinary processes when required.
10. Lead by example with a hands-on, safety-first approach.
REQUIREMENTS
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR:
11. Proven experience as a Transport Supervisor / Assistant Manager, ideally on a COMAH-regulated site.
12. Strong background supervising HGV Class 1 drivers.
13. CPC qualification (essential).
14. Excellent knowledge of compliance, vehicle maintenance, and operational planning.
15. Confident communicator with leadership and coaching skills.
16. Ability to balance customer service excellence with cost efficiency.
