Offer description

Therapy Radiographer – Band 6 Radiotherapy Department at Cambridge University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.

Closing date: 07 June 2026.


Main responsibilities

* Work as a member of the multi‑disciplinary team, communicating fully with other team members and contributing to total care of patients undergoing radiotherapy.
* Provide support and advice to patients and relatives before, during, and after treatment.
* Ensure the highest standard of care is provided at all times within available resources.
* Contribute to continuous monitoring of the service to comply with local and national guidelines.
* Provide support and technical advice to staff and students, undertaking training and supervision of junior staff, students and apprentices.


Device & technology

The department uses two Tomotherapy Radixact units, four Varian Truebeam units (2 with AlignRT, 2 with ExacTrac), a fifth Truebeam with AlignRT and a third Tomotherapy Radixact currently being installed, HDR and superficial skin treatments, two Canon wide‑bore CT scanners, Raystation treatment planning system and Mosaiq for record and verify.


Requirements

* HCPC registered and possess a BSc (Hons) in Radiotherapy or equivalent.
* Fully flexible with shift requirements, covering early, late and possible weekend shifts.
* For international applicants evidence of IELTS level 7 or equivalent is required.


Qualifications

* Diploma of the College of Radiographers or B.Sc. Hons equivalent.
* Health and Care Professions Council registration.
* Management courses.
* Research methodologies.


Experience

* Radiotherapy experience with a variety of external beam delivery units.
* Advanced radiotherapy techniques – experience of IMRT and IGRT.
* Completed preceptorship period.
* Informal teaching and training of students.
* Evidence of additional personal study, active CPD and working at the level of the advertised post.
* Pre‑treatment units and dosimetry experience.


Knowledge

* Principles and practice of radiotherapy and oncology.
* Principles of radiotherapy planning.
* Working knowledge of Windows programmes.
* Knowledge of and use of different information sources.
* Knowledge and application of national regulations relating to ionising radiation for medical exposure (IR(ME)R).
* Knowledge and application of regulations related to obtaining informed consent.
* Good awareness of the different treatment regimes.


Skills

* Able to work autonomously and as part of a team.
* Ability to prioritise and schedule tasks, plan and organise.
* Proven problem‑solving abilities.
* Ability to synthesise information, evaluate risks and options when making difficult decisions.
* Ability to think ahead, judge development trends and plan accordingly.
* Ability to make recommendations for change.
* Able to challenge and question when appropriate.
* Able to respond to change and develop practice.
* Computer literate with experience of Microsoft Office.

Salary: £39,959 to £48,117 per annum pro rata.
