Murphy is recruiting for a Principal Temporary Design Engineer to work with Murphy Applied Engineering in Stonecross, Warrington.
Our engineering teams encompass a multi-disciplinary range of skills, adding value across all sectors and pushing the boundaries of digital construction, engineering innovation, and design to deliver intelligent, sustainable, and economical solutions.
In this role, you will provide safe, economic, and constructible solutions within project timeframes for the company’s Business Units, delivering key UK projects such as AMP 8 for United Utilities (upgrading network infrastructure across Northwest England) and TRU East (upgrading railway infrastructure between Leeds and York).
A day in the life of a Principal Design Engineer
* Lead a small temporary works team and develop strong internal relationships with Project Managers and Directors.
* Expand the internal order book for your team and deliver projects across Murphy’s portfolio in the north of the UK.
* Mentor junior staff and graduates within MAE.
* Report to the Senior Engineering Manager on project deliverables and team performance.
* Represent the MAE team in collaborative project meetings.
* Conduct site visits as appropriate.
* Gather feedback on solutions and contribute to lessons learned meetings.
* Prepare fully integrated permanent and temporary works proposals to meet bid and project delivery requirements.
* Collaborate with other Principal Engineers to develop and grow the department.

* HND/Bachelor’s/Master’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
* Experience in the railway or water industries with a strong understanding of regulatory requirements.
* Chartered with the ICE or IStructE.
* Experience in financial management and project control.
* Strong analytical and design skills with the ability to interpret project requirements.
* Excellent communication skills and a desire to build relationships across the company.
* An open-minded approach to solving civil and structural engineering challenges.
* Keen to visit company sites and offices across the country.
