Overall Responsibilities
Act as a Product Safety Engineer for TÜV SÜD America, inspecting, testing, and photographing products for conformity assessment according to international standards and regulations. Deliverables to clients include Certificates, Test Reports, and Technical Reports. Provide engineering expertise and operational support for Product Safety Testing.
This is a full-time exempt position within TÜV SÜD America Inc., Product Service division. It is primarily an onsite role with potential for hybrid work based on business needs.
Essential Functions
1. Knowledge of IEC and UL standards, along with international safety schemes such as OSHA's NRTL Program and the IECEE's CB Scheme.
2. Prepare technical reports based on project scope, develop test execution plans, and determine testing requirements by analyzing client input, supplemental data, and product construction.
3. Communicate effectively with internal and external customers, providing technical feedback, answering questions, and relaying information regarding standards and test procedures to ensure product compliance.
4. Set up and operate standard test equipment, including oscilloscopes, multi-meters, dielectric strength testers, and environmental chambers.
5. Ensure all test documentation is accurate, complete, and ready for report compilation.
6. Maintain knowledge of operational procedures for all test equipment, ensuring proper calibration and functionality.
7. Participate in customer kick-off meetings to clarify test plans and ensure proper sample configuration.
8. Stay updated on the latest design theories, standards, test procedures, and technology through training, seminars, and technical literature.
9. Contribute to regional product safety team activities, including audits and client site testing or witnessing.
Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
* Ability to work independently and collaboratively.

* Reliable judgment, adaptability, and realistic approach to situations.
* Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
* Experience with Medical IEC Standards such as IEC 60601-1 and related standards.
* Experience with process standards like IEC 62304, IEC 14971, and IEC 62366.
* Experience with IEC standards related to Information Technologies and Laboratory Measuring Equipment.
* Knowledge of circuit analysis for safety-critical components.
* Strong customer interaction skills.
* Comfortable performing hands-on engineering in laboratory environments following ISO 17025 procedures.
Education
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Engineering Technology, or a related field from an ABET-accredited program.
Experience
Minimum of two (2) years of product regulatory experience. Prior experience with consumer product safety standards, with medical standards being advantageous.
