Job summary: An exiting secondment opportunity has become available for 1 year full time: Band 7 Specialist Physiotherapist in Gait lab (FES and Gait Analysis). Expression of interest: Job share possible.
The Gait Laboratory provides clinical services in functional electrical stimulation (FES) and movement (gait) analysis. Referrals are received from the orthotics, prosthetics, paediatrics and adult neurology, and orthopaedic services within the Trust, and through several CCGs in London and the south.
Responsibilities
* The post-holder will be integral to the gait analysis and functional electrical stimulation services and is open to registered clinicians who have the relevant skills to support these services, including Physiotherapists and Clinical Scientists.
* Gait analysis is conducted through video analysis and, in many cases, by means of data from passive marker detection, force platforms, electromyography (EMG) and other objective measures of movement. The department provides relevant verbal and written feedback to the clinicians and patients for clinical decision-making on rehabilitation, surgery and other interventions to improve function.
* The majority of FES referrals are for gait assist, although there is growing upper limb rehabilitation electrical stimulation service.
* The department also provides education and training to NHS staff and students, including trainee clinical scientists. It has a research and development role within the Trust and provides advice/support on research in movement analysis and electrical stimulation to NHS staff.
