We are searching for a full time (37.5 hours per week) Band 5 Registered Occupational Therapist to join us on Beech Ward based in Torquay, Torbay Hospital. Beech ward is a 16 bedded inpatient Mental Health Ward that supports primarily older adults with functional mental health difficulties.
We warmly welcome Student Band 5 Occupational Therapists who will be completing their training this year to apply for this role. The successful candidate will be supported by a team of experienced clinicians.

This is a rare and exciting opportunity to work within a dynamic team in a service that has been rated as Outstanding by the CQC. Working alongside the Nursing Team, and within the MDT, you will ensure that service users receive a high standard of person-centred care which enables them to recover in a timely way.
Main duties of the job
As a Band 5 Occupational Therapist on our older adult inpatient mental health ward, you will conduct thorough assessments to understand each patients functional and mental health needs, developing tailored interventions that promote independence in daily living and enhance wellbeing. You'll deliver both individual and group therapy sessions, working closely with a multidisciplinary team to support holistic care and smooth discharge planning. Monitoring progress and adapting treatments, you will also provide valuable education and support to patients and their families, helping them on their recovery journey. Accurate record-keeping and contributing to service development are key to this rewarding role where your work truly makes a difference.

Person Specification
Qualifications
* Bsc Hons Degree in Occupational Therapy or Diploma from COT
Knowledge
* Clear understanding of core OT skills and theory
* Awareness of the implications of long-term institutional care
* Understanding of team dynamics
* Basic knowledge of health legislation and current practice including CPA and risk assessment management
* Awareness of legal implications of the Mental Health Health Act and other legal frameworks specific to the setting
Experience
* Application of the OT Process
* Use of standardised / functional assessment and activity analysis
* Previous Band 5 post (or training placement equivalent)
* Prior experience of working with complex and vulnerable individuals
