Company Sergeant Major (CSM) – Light Infantry Reserve Unit The CSM is responsible for maintaining discipline, standards, and operational effectiveness within a Light Infantry Reserve Unit. The CSM is a key figure in the chain of command, acting as the senior advisor to the Company Commander on all soldier-related matters. Key Responsibilities: Discipline and Standards: Enforce military discipline and ensure adherence to the Army’s values and standards. Act as a role model, demonstrating exemplary conduct, leadership, and professionalism. Oversee the welfare, morale, and development of all soldiers within the Coy. Training and Administration: Support the planning, coordination, and delivery of training activities, ensuring they meet operational requirements. Monitor and report on individual and collective training standards. Assist in the administration of personnel, including attendance, documentation, and career management. Leadership and Mentorship: Provide leadership and guidance to junior NCOs, fostering their professional development. Act as a mentor to soldiers, offering advice and support on personal and professional matters. Operational Readiness: Ensure the company is prepared for operational deployments, including equipment checks and personnel readiness. Support the Company Commander in the execution of orders and operational tasks. Liaison and Communication: Act as a conduit between the Company Commander and soldiers, ensuring effective communication. Liaise with other units, departments, and external agencies as required. The CSM plays a pivotal role in maintaining the operational effectiveness and cohesion of the company, ensuring it is ready to meet the demands of both training and operational commitments.
