In our quest to deliver patient-focused quality care we are looking to recruit a highly motivated, innovative and enthusiastic Nursing Associate to join our forward thinking, friendly and expanding Health & Justice team at HMYOI Feltham.

By joining our Prisons Health Care Team, you will not only look after the healthcare needs of our patients residing in secure environments, but who also have the opportunity to have a real impact on promoting health and well-being. Our healthcare services work to a 7 day week working model, to ensure our patient's healthcare is managed and maintained to the highest of standards at all times.

Our motto is “Caring NOT Judging” so by working in partnership with the criminal justice system and other agencies, we provide responsive, dependable and high-quality primary care and mental health services to those who may have offended and those at risk of offending in the communities we serve, to improve their health status and to encourage social inclusion.

Main duties of the job

1. Work as part of the multidisciplinary team participating in procedures and duties in accordance with agreed standards relevant to role.
2. Participate in the assessment process of care needs and implementation of programmes of holistic care within set standards
3. Ensure privacy and dignity is maintained
4. Support the promotion of health and wellbeing of clients
5. Undertake clinical interventions as delegated by a registered nurse or senior team member
6. Maintain close liaison with the senior team member, who is responsible for the workload
7. Maintain clear and comprehensive, signed and contemporaneous records both written and electronic in accordance with NMC Guidance for record keeping and CNWL Policy
8. Assist with clerical and administrative duties as required
9. Work in co-operation and partnership with all other professionals and agencies involved in care of the patient
10. Aware of and act upon, where necessary, the procedures in place to protect vulnerable individuals
11. Take responsibility within own competencies for supporting all aspects of infection prevention and control
12. Undertake such duties as may be reasonably required from time to time, as are consistent with the responsibility and scale of the post
13. Work collaboratively with the team to meet the needs of patients with specified long term conditions by providing quality evidence based care
14. Assist with stock control and equipment checking (all clinical areas and emergency bags)

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Principal Duties:

Clinical Duties:

The post holder will be expected to undertake the following (training will be given):

29. Respond to medical emergencies and general alarms
30. Administer medication as agreed within areas of competence and under the direction of a qualified nurse and act as ‘second signatory’ as required
31. Wound care
32. Vital observations and diagnostics e.g. blood pressure, pulse, SATs, blood glucose monitoring
33. ECG recording
34. Venepuncture
35. Assist with minor surgery
36. Near patient testing e.g. INR monitoring
37. Health promotion advice
38. Secondary health screening
39. Assisting with sexual health prevention, screening and treatment clinics
40. Providing additional support for patients with specific needs, e.g. the disabled and the elderly
41. Assist with the activities of daily living and development of care plans for prisoners with physical and mental health needs.
