To help deliver this transformation, we are expanding our Major Projects team and have an exciting opportunity for an Assistant Project Manager to support the development and delivery of large‑scale port infrastructure projects.
You will join the team at a particularly exciting time, with a major RoRo port expansion currently underway, a large green energy scheme consented and a diverse pipeline of early‑stage projects progressing across the region. This role will not be focused on a single initiative — instead, you’ll gain exposure across multiple projects at different project lifecycle stages from concept through to delivery.
The Opportunity
As an Assistant Project Manager, you’ll play a key role in turning high‑value opportunities into real‑world delivery. Working within cross‑functional project teams and alongside regional operations, engineering, commercial and property colleagues, you’ll help ensure our major projects are delivered safely, efficiently and to the highest standards.
What You’ll Be Doing
Supporting the delivery of major capital projects by:
7. Maintaining project documentation, schedules and reporting to ensure delivery against time, cost and quality objectives.
8. Assisting with the development of business cases and project options to secure strong value for money.
9. Managing scope, risk, change and governance throughout the project lifecycle.
10. Supporting stakeholder and community engagement activities, including planning and consenting processes.
11. Coordinating procurement and contract administration, ensuring best value and reduced risk to ABP.
12. Encouraging knowledge sharing and continuous improvement across the Major Projects team.
13. Promoting a strong culture of health, safety and wellbeing in all activities.
Skills and Experiences
Essential
14. 3–5 years’ experience supporting capital infrastructure projects.
15. Strong organisational, communication and reporting skills.
16. Experience collaborating across multidisciplinary teams.
17. Flexibility to work across the UK, with regular travel to ABP ports and partner locations (all travel covered in line with policy).
18. Experience in transport, maritime, rail, logistics or port environments.
19. Positive, high‑energy attitude with a proactive and self‑motivated approach.
Ideal
20. Degree (or equivalent) in Project Management, Engineering or a related discipline.
21. Working towards (or membership of) APM, ICE or similar body.
22. Familiarity with nationally significant infrastructure projects, consenting processes or environmental regulation across the UK.
23. Basic understanding of construction contracts.
24. Client‑side experience developing or delivering major infrastructure.
