The Care Navigator is usually the first point of contact for participants eligible to undertake lung cancer screening. The role involves initial screening over the telephone with participants, creating rapport and promoting a positive experience of the service. The Care Navigator adopts a non-judgemental approach to obtain accurate smoking and respiratory history from participants.
The role has associated administrative tasks including regularly checking LCS emails and actioning appropriately, following up non-attenders to the phone screening and answering incoming calls.
The Care Navigator will be responsible for the supervision, as required, of the LCS Assistants.
Main duties of the job
Predominantly this role performs the initial phone screening and risk scoring of participants who are elidable to be part of the program. Taking overall responsibility for your own administrative work including booking appointments, rescheduling appointments, responding to phone calls and emails.
This role also includes supervisory and leadership responsibilities, managing the administrative team with regards to sickness and absences, ensuring schedules are covered to allow for the smooth running of the service.
As the services grows tobacco dependency advise service may be introduced which would be part of this role to deliver with the support of the nursing team.
