Join our Forest Operations team in Welshpool and take on a vital role at the heart of sustainable woodland management in Mid Wales. As a Technical Support Officer, you'll be out in the field most days, helping plan and deliver a wide range of forest operations across the stunning landscapes of Dyfnant, Hafren, and Radnor. You'll carry out on-site surveys, collect conservation and forest data, maintain GIS records, and provide vital technical input that shapes the future of our forests. Whether it's supervising harvesting, planting, or ground preparation, you'll ensure operations are safe, efficient, and environmentally sound. This is a fast-paced, hands-on role where no two days are the same. You'll liaise with contractors, supervise site work, complete essential documentation, and support the wider team in delivering high-quality, multifunctional forestry that balances timber production with biodiversity and community benefits. About us As a team we are responsible for the sustainable management of the Welsh Government Woodland Estate. We practice multifunctional forestry, delivering sustainable timber production within NRW's vision of nature and people thriving together. As a key member of the Mid North East Forest Operations team, you will work alongside the Officers, Senior Officers and Team Leader to contribute to the sustainable management of the Welsh Government Woodland Estate in our area. As a team we work alongside other forest operations, land management, engineering and wildlife teams as part of Mid Wales Operations. The team is based in Welshpool but cover a wide area, extending to Dyfnant Forest in the North, Hafren Forest to the West of the area and Radnor and Presteigne Forests to the South. Your work will be focussed in specific forest blocks but you will be expected to travel across the whole area. As an organisation we support flexible working. Deliver work plans, and delivery of agreed actions to contribute to business planning. Participate in NRW technical groups. Interact with peers in NRW to promote consistent industry and specialist subject practices. Have responsibility for direct delivery of delegated programmes. Your qualifications, experience, knowledge and skills In your application and interview you will be asked to demonstrate the following skills and experience using the STAR method. 1. Experience of working in land management disciplines. 2. Knowledge of sustainable forest management, UKWAS and forest certification schemes. 3. Knowledge of forest planning and forest operations.
