The Development Services Division is responsible for statutory functions of Council associated with development and provides high levels of customer service centred on efficient and consistent processes that provides certainty for all customers of the service and the community. The team collaborates with all our stakeholders in order to deliver a high level of customer service with a focus on achieving results that benefit the community.
About the Role:
As a Building Compliance Officer, you will play a vital role in ensuring our city’s built environment meets legislative standards and community expectations. Your primary responsibility will be to coordinate and deliver building compliance activities in accordance with the Planning, Development and Infrastructure Act and related legislation. You'll respond to complaints, conduct inspections, and lead investigations that uphold the integrity of development within the City. This is your opportunity to apply your professional knowledge in a role that blends fieldwork, stakeholder engagement, and meaningful regulatory impact.
Key Responsibilities:
* Administer and enforce relevant Acts and Regulations with professionalism and respect.
* Plan and coordinate compliance actions to ensure timely, effective outcomes.
* Investigate and respond to community complaints, ensuring appropriate and fair action.
* Assist building owners in maintaining and updating respective Essential Safety Provisions.
* Collaborate with legal representatives, government agencies, and community stakeholders.
* Conduct compliance inspections of authorised and unauthorised developments.
* Prepare clear and concise reports, including compliance recommendations.
To excel in this position, you will have:
* Strong working knowledge of the Planning, Development and Infrastructure Act 2016 and associated regulations.
* Eligibility for accreditation as a Level 4 Building Inspector (or higher) under the Act.
* Demonstrated experience in conducting investigations and legal compliance processes.
* Exceptional organisational skills to coordinate multiple compliance workflows effectively.
* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to handle sensitive or high-pressure situations.
* Class 1 Driver’s Licence.
* High level of computer literacy and ability to use field-based technology.
* Demonstrated professionalism, accuracy, timeliness, and customer service orientation.
