The Opportunity
The Environmental Assurance (EA) landscape is evolving rapidly, with increased scrutiny and a growing remit across water, wastewater and bioresources. To meet this challenge, we are strengthening our capability with a dedicated function focused on environmental performance uplift, permit compliance and operational excellence.
As a senior delivery leader, you will work closely with the Environmental Assurance Senior Manager and the Head of Environmental Transformation to translate assurance insight into action. You will lead targeted improvement programmes and rapid‑delivery sprints that address root causes, embed best practice and drive sites toward ‘Platinum’ standards of environmental performance.
This is a role for someone who thrives at the intersection of strategy, delivery and regulatory accountability — someone who can bring structure, pace and clarity to complex, multi‑stakeholder environments.
What you'll be doing:
* Develop and manage robust project management plans for assigned programmes
* Lead rapid, high‑impact improvement initiatives with measurable outcomes
* Use data and metrics to demonstrate a shift from reactive to proactive environmental management
* Embed sustainable controls, governance and ownership at site level
* Identify, replicate and scale best practice across the network
* Lead and mentor County Environmental Delivery Managers to ensure consistent, high‑quality delivery
* Ensure all projects meet safety, efficiency and business objectives
* Build strong relationships with leadership teams to align delivery with wastewater and network expectations
* Manage risks, changes and escalations that impact programme delivery
* Develop resource plans and secure appropriate capability across functions
* Ensure full compliance with governance and regulatory requirements
* Establish and lead a direct environmental delivery team, collaborating across the organisation
* Provide clear, concise progress reporting to senior stakeholders including Exec, Environment Director and the EA
* Maintain effective engagement with SLT, regulators, local councils and third parties
* Support governance groups with regular updates and insight
What we're looking for:
* Degree‑educated or able to demonstrate equivalent industry experience
* Proven ability to operate cross‑functionally and deliver shared outcomes
* Strong track record delivering complex programmes to challenging timelines
* Skilled at securing commitment, accountability and alignment from senior stakeholders
* Ability to translate strategic objectives into structured, deliverable plans
* Experienced leader with excellent interpersonal, negotiation and communication skills
* Highly developed influencing capability, able to challenge constructively
* Strong financial planning and budget management skills
* Commercially and regulatorily astute, with an understanding of EA‑driven mechanisms
