Job Description:
Join our Engineering Team at Telent to innovate and develop solutions, working with technical experts committed to making an impact. Be part of a high-performing team handling complex and critical work, helping to build and maintain the nation's critical infrastructure.
Reporting to the Reliability & Obsolescence Manager, the Workshop Engineer will test, diagnose, repair, and maintain Rail Communication equipment. This role demands strong analytical skills, hands-on experience with electronic diagnostic tools, and the ability to troubleshoot hardware issues independently.
This position requires presence at our workshop in Canning Town (London) five days a week.
What you’ll do:
* Perform component-level troubleshooting, diagnostics, and repair of electronic devices and circuit boards.
* Utilize oscilloscopes, multi-meters, soldering equipment, and other diagnostic tools for hardware evaluation and repair.
* Analyze root causes of equipment failures and implement corrective actions.
* Maintain accurate repair records, test results, and documentation.
* Collaborate with engineering teams on issues and product improvements.
* Ensure safety standards and company procedures are followed during repairs.
* Assist in inventory management of parts and tools.
* Support product testing and quality control as needed.
Who you are:
You have experience in component-level repairs, soldering, and testing of equipment.
Key Requirements:
* Recognized engineering qualification - NVQ Level 3 or higher, or related experience.
* Proven experience in troubleshooting and repairing electronic systems at component level.
* Ability to read schematics, datasheets, and technical documentation.
* Strong soldering/desoldering skills (SMT and through-hole).
* Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
* Knowledge of ESD safety practices.
