Job Description

We need a Marine Water Quality Officer to help make this happen, applying technical expertise in marine environments, modelling, and data analysis to support evidence‑based decisions.
Key Responsibilities
* Review complex reports and summarise key information for decision‑making.
* Interpret monitoring data and model outputs to support environmental protection.
* Summarise and communicate technical work, and escalated challenges when needed.
* Build strong relationships across a dispersed team and with external partners.
* Use your initiative to contribute to the work of the team and wider organisation.
* Apply sound records‑management principles.
* Use data to inform water‑quality models.
* Take part in incident response duties and receive full training and support.
Qualifications & Skills
* A degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline (e.g., marine biology, environmental science, data science).
* Experience in data analysis and some knowledge of modelling software.
* Proficiency in tools such as Excel, Access, R, Power BI, GIS and specialist packages like Mike or Cormix.
* Comfortable working in a virtual team and travelling for occasional national meetings.
* Ability to communicate complex technical information to non‑technical audiences.
* Experience building relationships across multidisciplinary teams.
* Working towards professional membership is desirable.
Additional Information
We assess the impact of discharges on water quality across key areas, including nuclear new build, major infrastructure projects, and the Water Industry National Environment Programme. Training and mentoring will be provided. The role offers a permanent and a six‑month fixed‑term contract. Flexible arrangements and potential additional payment for incident response duties are available.
