Senior Care Support Worker, Ward B5

30 hours per week, Band 3

Fixed Term Contract to end 01/08/26

Ward B5/ESH is split into 3 areas, SAEC, SAU and station 3 which is a general ward area. We regularly support the trust with flow and capacity pressures and are the heart of activity. We have direct admission’s from the Emergency Department, the Urgent Care Centre and community GP’s; no day is ever the same.

We aim to provide a high quality effective service to all patients, encompassing the trusts vison and values.

We are searching for caring individuals who understand the needs of our patients and display compassion and patience at all times.

Successful applicants will be actively encouraged to develop their skills and knowledge to meet both personal and service development needs.

Main duties of the job

The Senior Care Support Worker will work together with members of the Nursing / Midwifery team and contribute to the implementation of a high standard and individualised patient care under the direction of a registered nurse.

The post holder will be required to communicate effectively with other members of the health care team, patients and relatives and must be able to recognise and report to the appropriate person any changes in the patient’s condition which may require the intervention of others.

The post holder will be assessed on appointment on their level of competence and may be required to undertake development to include basic skills and in house development programme.

The Senior Care Support Worker will:

1. Be an integral member of the ward/department team working under the direct or indirect supervision of a registered practitioner.

2. Be responsible for providing care to patients as delegated by the registered practitioner following the completion of specific competencies.

3. Contribute to the maintenance of care environment and quality initiatives to enhance patient care.

4. Ensure that their practice adheres to policies, procedures and competencies.

5. Act in a manner that upholds privacy, dignity, respect and confidentiality of patients and colleagues

Education and Qualifications

Essential criteria

6. Maths and English Qualification – GCSE A-C or Functional Skills Level 2
7. Care Certificate or ability to complete within 12 weeks of commencing employment
8. QCF/NVQ Level 3 in Healthcare or equivalent qualification/relevant experience

Desirable criteria

9. Food Handling Certificate

Experience

Essential criteria

10. Able to undertake a limited range of delegated clinical care duties, e.g temperature, pulse, respiration, blood pressure, blood glucose monitoring, urinalysis, wound observations, removal cannula/catheter
11. Able to assess patient/client condition through observation/test results; assess comfort of patient/client, instigate emergency procedures
12. Regular contact with bodily fluids when carrying out interventions and or treatments
13. Frequent moderate/intense effort required for periods of time
14. Experience in a healthcare environment
15. Manual handing of patients (including toileting, bathing and turning patients), equipment and stores

Communication

Essential criteria

16. Clear communication skills oral and written

Knowledge and Training

Essential criteria

17. Ability to recognise limitations of knowledge and competence and practice within these boundaries
18. Prepared to undergo further training
19. Able to use and update IT systems with patient information
20. An understanding of their role within the team
