Overview
This deputy sister post is within the Maxillofacial and Orthodontic Unit. The post holder will join the management team of an expanding outpatient unit.
Responsibilities
- Provide clinical services across minor oral surgery, general and specialist clinics, trauma pathways and pre‑operative assessment.
- Support the care of patients with additional needs in both clinical and community dental settings.
- Work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team to deliver high‑quality, patient‑centred care.
- Assist the senior sister and head and neck matron with day‑to‑day unit operations, including audits, off‑duty planning and use of the trust digital platform.
- Demonstrate sound knowledge of maxillofacial and orthodontic services and support clinical activity across all clinics and service areas.
- Actively manage the unit when functioning as nurse in charge, applying clinical judgement and a robust understanding of policies and procedures.
- Escalate concerns in line with Trust policies and procedures, and ensure timely escalation of issues.
- Maintain excellent organisational and time‑management skills to meet audit deadlines and administrative requirements.
Qualifications
- Minimum 3 years post‑registration experience at Band 5 (Band 6 experience is welcomed but not essential).
- Sound working knowledge of maxillofacial and orthodontic services.
- Experience in paediatric and special care dentistry desirable.
- Adaptability to varied clinical environments and the ability to think quickly in an ever‑changing setting.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with a collaborative approach to multidisciplinary care.
- Effective decision‑making and initiative within policy and organisational protocols.
Additional Requirements
- Good understanding of outpatient processes, governance and organisational protocols.
- Excel at audit processes, off‑duty planning and other administrative tasks within required timeframes.
- Ability to work autonomously and safely manage a busy, evolving service.
