Overview

We are seeking a dynamic Registered Nurse to join our South Sites Eye Service at Queen Mary's Hospital, Sidcup, and Orpington Hospital. Our clinics provide a comprehensive service, offering the post holder an excellent opportunity to either develop a new and exciting specialty or advance their existing ophthalmic skills and knowledge.

We are looking for someone who embraces change and works collaboratively with the care group to implement innovative ways of working, always putting the patient at the centre of everything they do.

In this role, you will care for patients attending eye appointments or procedures, coordinate clinical activities, perform various diagnostic eye tests, assist with ocular procedures, and apply your holistic knowledge to develop pre-assessment and rapid access assessment skills, among other responsibilities.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate compassion, deliver high-quality care with excellent communication skills, and collaborate effectively within a multi-professional team to ensure patients receive timely and safe care throughout their journey in the department.

Main duties of the job

Job responsibilities

To practice within the NMC Code: Professional Standards (2015) and adhere to this at all times. To assess, plan and evaluate individualized programmes of care for patients in partnership with the patient, their carers and the multidisciplinary team. To support and assist in the health education of patients and their families. To ensure care is delivered in accordance with latest evidence based practice guidelines. To ensure that patients and next of kin are informed as appropriate. To maintain up to date and comprehensive records of care in accordance with NMC and legal requirements. To maintain patient confidentiality at all times. To support junior colleagues, students, and visitors to the department. To demonstrate effective communication and customer care skills with patients and their relatives/carers, thereby acting as a positive role model for nurses and other staff. To act in a professional manner at all times.


Person Specification

Education and Qualifications

* Registered Nurse (RN1) with active NMC registration at time of starting appointment

Knowledge and Experience

* Understanding of NMC Code of Professional Conduct

Skills and Competencies

* Able to manage a deteriorating patient
* Ability to communicate effectively (written and verbal)
* Proficiency in dispensing and administering oral & IV medication

Desirable

* Computer literacy skills
* Proven record in teaching/mentoring/supervising others
