2025 marks the 200th anniversary of the first passenger rail journey, celebrating our proud history and bright future.

What you'll do

Traveling on our trains and patrolling stations, you'll help address anti-social behaviour, crime, and fare evasion. Sometimes it involves physically stepping in to deescalate situations. Other times, it means seizing evidence and reporting minor crimes.

However, you'll never do it alone. You'll work with your partner, station teams, train staff, the British Transport Police, and other services to resolve incidents and support vulnerable passengers.

Your training

* When you join us, you'll be enrolled in our Passenger Services Apprenticeship Programme.
* You'll complete a mix of classroom-based and on-the-job learning, covering everything from functional skills to conflict management.

Physical intervention may be necessary to resolve conflicts, but our training will ensure you can do this confidently and safely.

Your shifts

* You will work a varied shift pattern, including weekends, bank holidays, and nights.
* Shifts can start as early as 6 am or finish at 2 am.
* Rosters typically involve one week of early shifts followed by three weeks of late shifts.

All You Need Is

* Excellent verbal and written communication skills
* Experience working directly with customers, especially in conflict or anti-social behaviour situations
* Good decision-making skills and composure under pressure
* Resilience, assertiveness, and professionalism in confrontational situations
* Initiative and teamwork skills
* Ability to evaluate, interpret information, and make appropriate decisions

To be considered, you must:

* Live within 45 minutes of the applying depot
* Have been a UK resident for at least three years
* Complete an NPPV Level 2 Vetting by the British Transport Police

Declare any criminal history on your application, including arrests, charges, cautions, or convictions.

We support the Armed Forces Covenant and Disability Confident Scheme. If eligible, you will be offered an interview under these schemes.

What you'll get in return

Rewards include:

* A final salary pension
* 28 days annual leave (including bank holidays)
* Free rail travel across our networks

Feel secure and fulfilled in your career with us. See our full benefits range here.
