The South Wiltshire Intensive Team provides assessments and treatments to individuals and their families when experiencing mental health crisis. The team works hard to provide this to people in crisis within their own homes to prevent the need for hospital admission.

This post is a developmental role, which would be perfect for newly qualified nurses with aspirations to develop into a Band 6 role. However, we also welcome experienced nurses who also wish to develop their skills within an intensive team. We would welcome applicants from Nursing, Social Work or Occupational Therapy registered professionals. You will be offered a 12-month developmental plan with support from the team to help you reach your goals.

You will need to be proactive and a good problem solver. We will support you to become increasingly autonomous in your role and develop strong assessment, triage and care planning/ implementation skills. You will need strong communication skills to develop therapeutic relationships with people in a range of challenging situations.

If you have an interest in developing into a Specialist Mental Health Crisis Practitioner, we would love to hear from you.

As a band 5 Intensive Practitioner you will be part of a multi-disciplinary team providing health and social care interventions to people with high risk and/or complex mental health issues, whom without community intervention may be at risk of hospitalisation.

You will support the team caseload by joining our senior staff to carry out frontline emergency and urgent assessments as well as the development and implementation of recovery focussed care plans and risk management plans.

Your work may involve supporting someone to develop a crisis plan, practice emotional regulation skills, manage and reduce their distressing experiences and implementing a range of evidence based interventions.

The team are built up of a range of different professionals, such as the Team Manager, Senior Practitioner, Consultant Psychiatrist, Social Workers, Mental Health Nurses, Occupational Therapist and un-registered Intensive Practitioners.

We have some very experienced members of staff who have been in the team for many years, as well as some newer members of the team. We love that some people bring great experience and some bring a fresh perspective.

We enjoy good humour and there is always different snacks available to make the difficult work we do a little bit more manageable!

We are AWP (Avon and Wiltshire Mental Health Partnership NHS Trust): a diverse organisation with over 5,000 dedicated staff providing inpatient and community-based mental health care.

We provide services from a range of locations to approximately 1.8 million people living in Bath and North East Somerset (B&NES), Bristol, North Somerset, South Gloucestershire, Swindon, across the county of Wiltshire and in parts of Dorset.

Our outstanding people promote mental health and wellbeing. The expertise and resources within AWP are dedicated to a person-centred approach for those who use our services and for all employees. We recognise that happy and fulfilled employees give better care.

AWP is committed to support and create a positive research and evidence-based environment and culture, which can have a beneficial impact on everyone who works for the organisation and the care we provide to those who use our services.

At AWP we actively encourage applicants from all backgrounds; we are particularly keen to encourage applications from people from Black, Asian and minority ethnic backgrounds, those with disabilities and from the LGBTQ+ community. We want people to bring their unique blend of experiences, backgrounds, perspectives and knowledge to AWP, as diversity makes us stronger.
